Explore the Inspiration Behind Dorian Place

For years, I searched for the perfect name for my business—something unique, meaningful, and deeply personal. I wanted a name that would remind me of where I came from, a name that could guide me as I move forward. That’s how I landed on Dorian Place.

Dorian Place is the tiny street I grew up on in a small town in Wisconsin. And when I say tiny, I mean three houses long. It was so small that even the town’s Postmaster didn’t know it existed. True story: one winter, my parents had gone south, and I went to the post office to forward their mail. When I told the Postmaster my address, he confidently informed me that no such street existed. I politely insisted, explaining that I’d lived there for 20 years. After some digging, he found the mail and sheepishly admitted his mistake.

Sure, the street was short, but the neighborhood was anything but small. Within a block of my house, there was a dentist, three teachers (including my mom), two college professors, an airplane pilot who built his own plane in his basement, a future minister, a future doctor, several artists, small business owners, and even a horse. Oh, and let’s not forget a future very early Google employee—I probably should’ve been nicer to him.

Growing up there gave me some of the best memories of my life. It was a place full of creativity, community, and inspiration. Maybe someday I’ll share more of those stories, but for now, just know that Dorian Place is more than a name—it’s a tribute to the people and experiences that shaped me.

A Creative Spark

I wouldn’t call myself particularly artistic, but I do have a knack for color, thanks to my dad. He owned a paint store for 26 years and spent his entire career working with colors. My mom, on the other hand, was a creative powerhouse. She could do it all: cross-stitch, calligraphy, basket weaving, handmade cards, sewing (she even made all the bridesmaid dresses for my sister’s wedding), and so much more. She was a perfectionist and mastered every craft she tried.

Her creativity inspired me to explore my own. While I may not have inherited her sewing skills, I found my passion in candle-making. There’s something magical about taking raw, disjointed materials and transforming them into something beautiful, relaxing, and fragrant. It’s a process that brings me peace, and I hope my candles bring that same sense of calm to you.

So, why Dorian Place? Because it’s more than just a name—it’s a story, a memory, and a little piece of who I am. And now, I’m excited to share that with you.
